"SEEING AND BEING"

WITH HEIDI BARTLETT

Event Sponsored by Nova Labs and Chicken Tractor

This workshop offered a safe space where participants could better understand their bodies in relation to other bodies and the spaces in which they exist together. Based on La Pocha Nostra live art lab techniques created by Guillermo Gomez-Peña, a prolific Chicano performance artist, writer and educator, 14 participants gathered at Moberg Gallery to focus on the human body as a site for creation, reinvention, memory, activism and healing.  Working as a group and in pairs, participants were asked to confront the space we put between us both physically and emotionally as well as using the body as art and sculptural installation. It was an amazing experience with a great deal of interest in repeating the workshop. Chicken Tractor is looking forward to having Heidi come back and bring the magic to even more people.

Participants paired up and took turns using one another to create installations using props and the body. The person acting as the "material" had their eyes closed for the entire process. Trust is the watch word. Art is the experience.
